DECATUR, Ill. – Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ University students, faculty and staff filled the University Commons on Monday, Dec. 8, for the annual Holidays Around the World celebration, transforming the Oberhelman Center for Leadership Performance (OCLP) into a festive showcase of international traditions.

Hosted by the Office of Student Affairs and the Center for International Education (CIE), the two-hour event invited campus and community members to explore how different cultures mark the holiday season.
Tables hosted by students, student organizations, faculty, and staff highlighted holidays that are meaningful to them β€” from those tied to home countries, to beloved traditions they have come to appreciate and learn about at Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ.

Colorful decorations, music and the scent of seasonal snacks welcomed guests as they arrived. Attendees sampled treats, sipped hot cocoa, made crafts and participated in hands-on activities at each table. Many hosts encouraged visitors to learn simple phrases in another language, try traditional games or share their own favorite holiday memories.
Attendees had the opportunity to learn more about international holiday traditions, including St. Nicholas Day, Orthodox Christmas, and traditions from Mexico, the Netherlands, the Philippines, and Romania and Ukraine.

The event reflected Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ’s commitment to preparing students for life in a global society, offering opportunities for intercultural learning.

In addition to cultural displays and activities, the evening featured fun for all ages. Guests could meet Santa Claus, take photos, and share their holiday wishes.
