Founded in 2010 by the Center for Entrepreneurship and the Department of Theatre and Dance, Pipe Dreams is comprised of and completely run by Â鶹ԼÅÄ students with a passion for the performing arts. Facilitated by Assistant Professor of Theatre Sara Theis and run by 15-20 students, Pipe Dreams offers a full season of performance experiences in musical theatre and drama annually. From small rock musicals, to plays, to world premiers, Pipe Dreams Studio Theatre presents a fully produced season each year which offers an alternative set of theatrical experiences to those offered by the School of Theatre and Dance Mainstage season. This unique curricular program offers students a variety of ways to become involved in the process of presenting live theatre. From directing and choreographing, to marketing and accounting, to securing production rights to designing and building scenery, lighting, and costumes, this immersive experience is designed to allow students the freedom to explore, experiment, and take risks associated with running a small business.
Positions in the Pipe Dreams leadership team include: Artistic Director, Managing Director, Marketing Director, Director of Development, Director of New Works, Production Manager. Students wishing to apply for a position on the Pipe Dreams Executive team must first have completed the requisite course work and must be concurrently registered for TH 390 Pipe Dreams Studio Theatre, a course that provides leadership and entrepreneurial skills as well as practical information on programming, marketing, branding, and development techniques necessary for running a small arts-based business.
